Wow. Fifteen weeks gone, five thousand search results pages accepted from the Greenhouse into Mahalo — 35%, give or take, of the total number of pages. A proud, proud moment for the 275 active Part Time Guides in the Greenhouse. That’s a lot of construction, quick.

Let’s do a little retrospective…

As you can see, things are happening faster and faster… how long before the 10,000th search result page from the Greenhouse? The more Part Time Guides we can pay to write excellent spam-free search results, the faster that day will come! Learn more, and join the team!

We’ve got something new on the horizon at Mahalo! Gradually, we’re organizing our amazing pool of Part Time Guides into teams — each dedicated to a specific category of search results pages like Health, Travel, Television, News, and so on.

This exciting new stage in our growth will bring greater integration between the Greenhouse and the Mahalo main site — more and more, we’re becoming one team — whether the members of that team are in our Santa Monica offices, or all over the world! Be a part of it!

More on this as it rolls out over the coming weeks… meanwhile, here are some of the latest search results pages from the Greenhouse we’re particularly proud of…

How Tos: Travel, Tech and Jello

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

Coliseum
We’ve got several great How Tos this week. If you’re a frequent flyer, “How to Get a First Class Upgrade” could land you in a luxury seat. If your destination is Rome, “How to Speak Italian” will be very useful.

Our employees thoroughly tested both “How to Set Up a Blog for Beginners” and “How to Customize Your MySpace Profile“, and now we have many more bloggers and MySpace stars on staff.

If you’re having a party this weekend, give our “How to Make a Jello Shot” page a try. It has also been thoroughly tested, and the results were declared tasty.

Greenhouse Week Thirteen: “…and Statistics.”

Pouring over some facts and figures recently, we discovered some fun, exciting stuff! Do you like numbers? I knew that you did.

There are approximately 1,300 Part Time Guides enrolled in the Mahalo Greenhouse. In the month of August, 132 of them had more than 2,100 search results pages accepted into Mahalo! That’s more than double July’s output, and seventy times more than June!

Another sign of the growth in Greenhouse: Nearly 72% of active Part Time Guides were active for the first time in August. Finally: over a third of the 12,000+ search results pages found on Mahalo were born in the Greenhouse. That’s remarkable!

Speaking of search results pages from the Greenhouse, here are some of our favorites since last we met:

Greenhouse Week Twelve: Labor Days!

The Labor Day holiday, with its long weekend, did nothing to slow down the Greenhouse Part Time Guides. They kept on keepin’ on, and even asked the Greenhouse staff for extra work before the office closed down for three days. Their hard work has brought our count of search results pages accepted from the Greenhouse into Mahalo up to over 3,600 — over 30% of the total! Here are some of our favorites from the last seven days…

Speaking of great labors, so far three of our Part Time Guides have achieved victory in our ongoing 100 x 100 contest rewarding the first one hundred Part Time Guides to have one hundred search results pages accepted to Mahalo. Congratulations to Keith, Angie H., and Richard M., who have each won an iPhone! Want to get involved? Be a Part Time Guide!

Mahalo is looking for a developer to build multiple Mahalo IE Toolbar technologies. You should be familiar with desktop application programming under Windows 2000, XP and Vista, as well as MS Internet Explorer versions 6 and 7. Should understand multi-threaded development models and have an understanding of general web technologies and how to interface the Toolbar with remote websites. Core competencies: C++, MFC, ATL, COM, ActiveX, Win32, Win16.

This is a highly visible, front line position in a high-profile search startup. The company is backed by all-stars Sequoia (Google, Youtube), Newscorp, CBS, Elon Musk (Paypal), and several others of note. The ideal person is a self starter with the “general get it factor”. You work well with a team of like-minded engineers, and have a genuine desire for excellence. The culture of the company is one where you’ll work hard and play hard, and new features and ideas are very rapidly prototyped and made live. We release and iterate in fast cycles. The opportunity to work with a world-class internet startup in Los Angeles is rare. We expect the coming year to be extremely exciting, with high growth and great rewards. Come be a part of it!
